Athletic Scholarships
Hi Kim,
I just saw your blurb on HARO.
I wanted to alert you to our High School Football Rudy Award which comes with $20,000 in college scholarships to the high school football player who brings the most heart and inspiration to their game (as opposed to the stats).
Anyone can nominate a player but their nomination needs to be approved by a parent and coach prior to being accepted. This is an award that strives to honor those kids who may not be the best athletes but who motivate and inspire their team and give it all they’ve got. They go the extra mile.
I thought you may want to be aware of it so as to share it with your students. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions. Our site is: www.HighSchoolRudyAwards.com
This is our inaugural year so you may not have heard of us previously. Here is our FAQ page which will answer additional questions for you: http://www.highschoolrudyawards.com/content/101_45/Award_FAQs .aspx
3 scholarships: $10,000 and two runners up each receive $5,000 to any college of their choice.
Cheers,
Sandy

IES Abroad to Award $2 million in Study Abroad
Scholarships for 2009-2010 Academic Year
Chicago, IL, Nov. 2009–Despite the severe impact of the current recession, IES Abroad has awarded more than $2 million in student financial aid over the past 12 months and plans to award another $2 million in study abroad scholarships for the 2009-2010 academic year.
During the 2008-2009 academic year, scholarship applications were the highest in IES Abroad history, totaling 3,006, an increase of 26 percent over the previous year. The 1,529 individual awards made by IES Abroad make it one of the largest scholarship providers for overseas study, both in terms of total dollars and numbers of students assisted.
From July of 2008 to June of 2009, IES Abroad offered scholarships in five categories: merit-based, diversity, need-based, public university and legacy. The scholarships assist students from U.S. colleges and universities studying overseas at one of IES Abroad’s 80 programs in 31 cities.
“The current global economic problems have made it more important than ever for American students to better understand the world in which we live. These scholarships make it possible for more students to continue their studies overseas and bring back to the U.S. a new, life-long perspective on the world,” said IES Abroad CEO and President Dr. Mary Dwyer.
