Once students get those scholarships, parents need to do more than cross their fingers and hope that students do well. Yet, we need to know how to step back and coach from the sidelines. We can support without being overbearing. Parents are undergoing their own transition, too. College Parent Central is another site that supports parents as they help their students succeed.

There are so many ways a parent can help their students apply for and win scholarships. My site, http://www.how2winscholarships.com is specifically for parents who are motivated enough to give their students the edge when it comes to winning scholarship money.

My two boys are graduating college in May. Neither of them know what they want to do. Found this book yesterday. I’m hoping it will spur them on. “You Have A College Degree, Now What?” http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0578044048/ref=cm_sw_r_fa_dp

Completing one semester is a huge accomplishment. You can update your essay with facts about college life, the adjustments you made and how you had a successful first semester. Whether or not they will remember you from a year ago - I can't say, but if you are eligible you should apply! By the way, if you decide not to apply for some reason, you should still send them an update and a thank you letter. Good Luck! - The Scholarship Lady

The U.S. Air Force has several opportunities through which to pay for college. The minimum age is 17 (to enlist with parent permission). Here is a link to their site: http://www.airforce.com/opportunities/enlisted/education/

During my HS senior year, I was awarded several scholarships to attend a college for Nursing. Now, as I complete my 1st semester, I am considering applying for some of the same scholarships (open to HS seniors and college undergraduates) that awarded monies to me last Spring. While these scholarships are renewable, I am finding it difficult to submit an essay that is different from the one the was sunbmitted last Spring. Yes, after one college semester, I have a new GPA and have completed new courses, but have not accomplished much more than that. How do you suggest I sell myself to a scholarship committee that will likely remember me and my essay/application from 11 months ago? Thank you for your assistance.
